Michael Levin: A Hero in Heaven

Last Friday was the second yartzeit (anniversary) of the death of Michael Levin, an American from Philadelphia who moved to Israel after he graduated from high, joined the Israeli Defense Forces, and was killed during the Lebanon War. (Here is an article in the Jerusalem Post about him.) I was with my friend Stephanie that day, and since she knew him from Philly we went to Har Herzl (Mount Herzl, the national military cematary in Jerusalem) to visit his grave.

We got lost a number of times, and eventually ran into a birthright group so I stopped to ask their leader if he knew where the soldiers from the Lebanon War were buried. He asked if we were looking for anyone in particular, and I said Michael Levin. He said that they would going to his grave and said if we came with them Stephanie could share some memories she had about him. Here are her comments:

There were also a number of Michael's friends from the army and kibbutz who had been visiting his grave that day and they shared more thoughts about his life.

There is a website that was created to remember Michael' life, called "A Hero in Heaven". There is also a short documentary about his life that you can order from that website that can shown on college campuses or Hillels to go along with a program about the Lebanon War or for Yom Hazikaron. You can watch a four minute preview of the movie about Michael's life here.

[And here is one more video about his life that was made about a year ago.]

Dear Andy,
Thank you so much for posting these wonderful interviews. It meant so much as we couldn't be there this year. We got to listen to the memorial service.
With deep appreciation
Harriet and Mark Levin
